Oh Hi There! | Winnipeg, Manitoba Maternity & Newborn Photographer

Well hello there! I know… it’s been a while. My Google ranking told me so - in a very matter-of-fact way. January is always that season for me in which I reflect and look ahead in my business. I crunch the numbers. I see what worked. I see what didn’t work. I reflect on what one more year of pandemic life looked like. I resolve to do better and to learn and to grow more. I make BIG plans for the coming year. … you get the idea. And so it began with 2022… “Dig deep Carolyn”. I said to myself. “See where you were, and then see where you need to go.”

Now here are the facts. I’ve been at this for a while now - 8 years to be exact. I have met many clients and made many friends. I have been incredibly fortunate to have had so many of you tell your friends about your positive experiences working with me. It has meant that for the last three or four years I have literally not had to do any real marketing. My calendar has always been as full as I needed/wanted it to be. That is an amazing feeling! It means that you all have trusted me to do something for you or your family that (to be frank) I would trust very few people to do. You’ve invited me into your homes. You’ve travelled long distances to come to my studio. You’ve endured the ‘colourful Downtown vibe’ in order to experience my new and beautiful studio with me! You’ve allowed me to meet your brand new babe’s during a pandemic. You’ve stripped down completely (literally) because I suggested that your amazing body growing a tiny human was definitely something worth photographing and that you should love and appreciate it as much as I did. You’ve sat with me and your shy or upset toddler for what probably felt like an eternity because I told you - let’s just give them a little time to warm up! Your partner may have gritted their teeth and silently prayed “Dear God, Carolyn just take the shot already!” because I was patiently waiting for ‘that perfect moment’. I have been able to watch your babies grow… from brand new to sitting on the cusp of puberty. You have been truly amazing. I appreciate each and every one of you probably more than you know.

Word of mouth advertising truly is as good as it gets! But coming out of this pandemic (fingers and toes crossed) I am ready for a larger audience. I am excited to meet new families! After two years I literally want to be where ALL the people are! So imagine my dismay when I took a dip dive into me websites SEO only to find myself ranking devastatingly poorly on Google searches! I mean, I was virtually invisible online. OUCH! It was really my own fault as I kind of neglected my website during the past two years but the sting was still very real! If no one can find me, no one can book me! This business is a whole lot of heart, but all that heart doesn’t necessarily equate to revenue on repeat! So here I am…. solemnly swearing to make a bigger effort to have an online presence. More blog posts. More image sharing. More ranting and raving and musing and sharing. But mostly… just hoping that you’ll still want to rant and rave and muse and share the things that I pour my heart into. I love my job. I always have. I love snuggling babies, empowering Mama’s, encouraging new Dad’s, and reminding your three year old that fart sounds are literally the funniest thing! I’m not ready for that to slow down any time soon! I hope you’ll come along for the ride!

And now… what would a photographers blog post be without photos??? Here are a few from my most recent sessions. I understood the assignment! Enjoy! ;-)

As always, thank you for reading. And may your images bring you light and love for years to come!
